Apostle of Reason, The

In this drama, Spinoza's philosophy is explained by exploring the turbulent times in which he lived. Born in 16th century Amsterdam to a family of Portugese Jewish refugees, he became one of the greatest philosophers of all time. Spinoza challenged religious and political orthodoxy. Despised by religious fanatics of every nature, he continued in his skepticism, enraging the Jewish elders who eventually excommunicated him. Although he wrote over 300 years ago, this great thinker remains the most modern of the old philosophers. His hatred of irrationality grows even more relevant in a world fractured by religious and nationalist venom.
